About Us

We are driven by a singular vision: a world where no girl is held back because of her period.

Who We Are

Green Girl Foundation is the social impact arm of Miss Nigeria. We work in underserved communities across Nigeria to ensure girls are not held back by period poverty, lack of information, or a shortage of opportunity. Since 2017, we have reached over 6,000 girls and women through direct programmes, outreach, and community engagement. What began as period hygiene outreach has grown into something much larger: a structured empowerment platform built around what girls actually need.

Our Story

A girl who cannot manage her period privately and safely is a girl who skips class, falls behind, and sometimes leaves school entirely. That is not a small problem. It is a crisis with a long tail, and it has been happening quietly for decades.
Green Girl started with a simple idea: show up, listen, and give girls what they need to keep going. We began by distributing menstrual health products and running hygiene sessions in schools and communities. We heard what the girls told us: that they needed more than pads. They needed knowledge, confidence, and someone who believed in them.
That is how the Green Girl Academy was born. It is a six-week programme that goes beyond hygiene to address financial skills, digital literacy, environmental awareness, and life skills that will serve girls for years after they leave the classroom.

Today, we are building on that foundation with a second pillar: Community Wash Hubs. These are safe, accessible spaces where girls can manage their health with dignity, regardless of what they have at home.

Every part of what we do comes back to one belief: when a girl is healthy, informed, and supported, she can do anything.

Our Mission

To restore dignity, build confidence, and create lasting opportunities for girls through education, menstrual health, and practical skills.

Our Mission

A world where no girl is held back because of her period.

Miss Nigeria & The Green Girl Movement

Green Girl Foundation operates as the social impact arm of Miss Nigeria, drawing on the organisation's national platform, audience, and influence to drive meaningful change for girls across the country. Miss Nigeria serves as the national face and advocate of the Green Girl Academy. Through her platform, she raises awareness on period poverty, champions access to education, and gives a voice to the girls we work with.

The Girl Champion Initiative

At the end of every Academy cohort, we recognise our top-performing participants as Girls Champions. These are young women who have shown growth, commitment, and a desire to keep lifting others around them. Girls Champions are celebrated at graduation and go on to serve as peer mentors in their schools and communities. Miss Nigeria plays an active role in highlighting these young leaders, sharing their stories publicly, and reinforcing their role as future changemakers.
